Frankfurt, Germany (October 12th, 2009) - Word Cup, a global online English vocabulary contest for all ages 14 to 114, will launch its 2010 season on October 16th at 12:00 pm (CET) as part of the Frankfurt Book Fair’s LitCam Live! forum.
Word Cup is a free online event and open to a global audience.
All three rounds of the competition take place online. The proprietary quiz format provided by eSpindle Learning tests active vocabulary and spelling skills in a time restricted quiz format.
“Word Cup is your chance to show the world how word savvy you are. There are substantial bragging rights attached to this title!” says Rosevita Warda, Executive Director of eSpindle Learning. Even if you’re not (yet) a word champion, you can win rewards at Word Cup for showing large improvement from one year to the next.
“Our goal is to grow Word Cup into the premier English vocabulary contest, and the largest fundraiser for literacy on the Web” adds Warda. “Embracing the spirit of the web, we designed Word Cup to be “powered by community.”
eSpindle Learning is a Californian nonprofit advancing literacy one word at a time through its online vocabulary coaching program, www.LearnThatWord.org. The nonprofit provides the platform and administration for the Word Cup competition, and encourages participants to contribute to the Word Cup Literacy Fund.
On September 8th, 2010, International Literacy Day, the nine highest scoring supporters determine how the Fund will be distributed to four featured literacy projects.
These literacy projects are eSpindle Learning’s own “Vocabulary Junction,” “The Language Project” in Laos, Invisible Children’s work in Uganda, and “Reading Circles” in Brazil.
The event is supported by Google, Amazon Web Services, AromaLand, BetterWorldBooks, and Helium.com. CDM Financials is providing auditing services for the Word Cup Fund.
